Q.  My 3-year old has gotten into the habit of asking for "medicine" whenever he gets "hurt" - even if it's minor, like a stumble. It's like he's using the medicine to get attention. This is bothering me but I don't know what to say.

A. Isn't it amazing how early we learn that "medicine will make it 'all better'"? And medicine, given by parents for an appropriate reason, usually will make it better. But, next time this happens, pick your son up and comfort him. Inspect the "injury" carefully and, if it's not serious, tell him a kiss is all the medicine he'll need. Then interest him in something else.
