Family Day -- A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children

Based on recent research showing the positive effects of eating dinner as a family on a regular basis, the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) has proposed September 24, 2001 as Family Day. The 2000 Teen Survey by CASA reveals that children who never eat dinner with their families are 61% more likely to smoke, drink or use illegal drugs. Children who eat family dinners 7 nights a week are 20% less likely than the average teen to engage in these activities.
