Q. Is the Internet a good source of information on drugs?

A. It can be but… be very careful! A quick search on the word "marijuana" on two major search engines turned up more than 500,000 websites dealing with the subject. We looked at the first 50 sites from each search engine and found two that were not promoting the use of marijuana! The rest were promoting the legalization of marijuana, the use of marijuana as medicine, tips on growing marijuana, opportunities to purchase marijuana online and the like.

This is a great example of why it's important to monitor the use of the Internet. (Keep the family computer in a common room.) Talk about where your kids are getting their information and help them "consider the source." Many of these sites rely on anecdotal stories and not science. Use the links on this website to connect to sources of science-based information.
